Classes and Enrichment

Community Nursery School is offering a K-wrap program for kindergarten students for the 2019-20 school year! This program will be held daily from 11:45 to 3:00.  The children will bring their lunch and eat here. We are offering a walking service for Moss School kindergarten students. Information is available in the CNS office.

Community K-Wrap will encompass a weekly theme that will include literacy, math, science, cooking and art.  There will be opportunity to play and socialize inside and outside.  The program will be taught by our own Mary Roth, a former Kindergarten teacher.

Tuition for 5 days will be $430/month, 3 days will be $300/month, 2 days 250/month. The program will be limited to 8-10 children per day.

Pre-K Classes and Enrichment Program

Classes run from September through June closely following the Metuchen public school calendar. All classes start at 9:00. Enrolled students may opt for an 8:30 arrival two, three, four or five mornings per week for a small additional monthly fee.

Young Learners Class

This 2 1/2 hour program (9:00 – 11:30) concentrates on providing a secure, warm atmosphere geared to promoting a 2-year-olds developing awareness of themselves in relation to their surroundings and other people. Both indoor and outdoor play is part of the daily schedule. Classes are limited to 12 children with a teacher and an assistant. Children are 30 – 36 months old to start. Classes are offered as a  two day (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) or three day program (adding Friday). Diapers are permitted in the Young Learners Class.

Classes for 3 and 4 Year Old children

These 3 hour (9:00 – 12:00), 4 hour (9:00-1:00) or 6 hour (9:00-3:00) classes offered two, three or five days a week nurture a child’s self-esteem and encourage social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. This is accomplished through the use of a variety of learning activities, educational materials and play situations. Music, Literacy and art are embedded in our program. Both indoor and outdoor play is part of the daily schedule.

3 Year OldsThe Pre-K3 classes are offered as a two-day, three-day or five day program. Early academics such as letter and number recognition are the foundations of the program. Children should be potty-trained but we will accommodate families if they are working to get their child trained. (Option for staying until 3:00 certain days will be made available if there is a demand). Classes are limited to 12 or 18 children with a teacher and an assistant.

4 Year Olds: The Pre-K4 classes are for 4-year-olds, including children who miss the kindergarten cutoff date in their home town. The children are provided with learning experiences and hands-on activities that promote kindergarten readiness and social interaction in a developmentally appropriate manner. Pre-K4 classes are limited to 19 children with a teacher and an assistant. Pre-K4 children may opt for afternoon enrichment (1:00 – 3:00) one, two, three, four, or five days per week.

Afternoon Enrichment

CNS offers the following additional interest activities from 1:00-3:00 for children in the Pre-K4 classes, and for children in neighboring morning kindergarten classes or other nursery schools 4s programs. Classes are limited to 12 students with a teacher and an assistant. The enrichment classes are included for children signed up for our Pre-K4 classes from 9:00-3:00 (any or all days). All classes are taught by experienced CNS teachers.

Art – A fun and engaging class that will start with the basic color wheel and cover painting, sculpture, print making and other media. Brush strokes, lines, organic and inorganic shapes will be covered. The children also will be exposed to different styles of art through the works of Kandinsky, Monet, Laurel Burch, Keith Haring, Chihuly and others. Children can attend either Monday or Tuesday during the school year.

Adventures in Literacy – Using fun and creative tools such as puppets, felt board props, games and projects to explore different stems of literacy from rhyming and letter sounds to dialogue and story comprehension. Children can attend either Monday or Wednesday during the school year.

Kids Cooking – A hands-on cooking and baking experience covering kitchen safety, measuring, cleanup and tasting! Children will be exposed to a variety of foods, kitchen tools, and cooking techniques at an age appropriate level. Books and fun activities related to the specific cooking and baking experience will be included. Children can attend either TuesdayThursday or Friday during the school year.

Spanish -A fun and interactive class where the children will learn beginning vocabulary along with learning about the culture of various countries that speak Spanish. Games and music will be integrated into the program.  Children can attend on Friday during the school year.

STEM – Children will explore the world around them as they engage in creative experiments to help them build essential problem solving, logic and planning skills. Children will have the opportunity to enhance their curiosity as they explore interesting topics through age appropriate hands-on experiences. Children can attend either Wednesday or Thursday during the  school year.
