I Get The Point!

Today we learned about Georges Seurat, the French painter. We learned that he started a new type of painting we call Pointillism. We learned that instead of blending the paint on the paper, our eyes will blend the colored dots and make the colors bolder.

Our doodle stick man danced in Science Enrichment Class!

We drew a stick man on different surfaces with a dry erase marker.  When we added a little bit of water, it peeled off the surface and floated on the water!  We learned dry erase markers have less adhesives (stuff that makes the ink stick to surfaces) so they lift off easily.  The ink is also insoluble (doesn’t dissolive in water) so it doesn’t

Halloween BINGO was great!

We had so much fun playing with Fall puzzles together.  We read ” Pete The Cat Trick or Treat”  and really enjoyed playing Halloween BINGO and discussing how the characters in the book were the same/similar to the Halloween BINGO board!

So much fun in Kids Cooking making Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats and learning about Halloween safety.

Today in Kids Cooking we made Pumpkin shaped Rice Krispie Treats.  We used butter, marshmallows and food coloring. Each child formed their own pumpkin shape and then used a tootsie roll as a stem.  It was fun! We also read a book about pumpkins, played the “hot pumpkin” game and colored.  It was fun hearing about everyones Halloween costumes and we had a very

We talked about what Folktales are. We also did some matching of upper/lowercase letters and practiced cutting.

This week in Reading Enrichment we talked about Folktales.  The children learned that Folktales are stories that are told over and over again, so the story changes over time. Our Story: The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf We discussed the differences in this version of the story compared to others we had heard. In Small Group we matched upper with the

Shapes, Shapes, Shapes! I can’t resist these shapes!

In Art Enrichment this week we learned that tape doesn’t absorb our paint.  The tape left white lines between our shapes.  We used it to create geometric shapes on our canvas.  We talked about triangles, rectangles, rhombuses, trapezoids, and pentagons.  We then counted the number of sounds in each shape.

We did some fun science projects with baking soda and corn starch in Science Enrichment.

In Reading we had fun retelling and sequencing a poem. We also made letters with Kinects toys.

We enjoyed retelling and sequencing the poem “The Five Little Apples.”. The children noticed the order of the animals going from smallest to largest.  They retold the story by acting it out with felt animals using a felt board.  It was a fun afternoon! We were also busy building letters with Kinects toys.

We made and enjoyed delicious pancakes and sausage in Kids Cooking Enrichment class this week.

We had a great time making pancakes and sausage.  The children learned about cooking safety and hygiene.  They also learned how to set the table and we talked about table manners.  We also cleaned up together. We read “Pancakes, Pancakes” by Eric Carle and talked about the steps to making pancakes and how important it is to eat a good breakfast.

The children made monoprints in Art Enrichment this week!

The children made monoprints by painting on plastic surfaces, drawing designs in the paint with cotton swabs and placing the paper over the paint.  We discussed the prefix “mono” and its meaning.  We also mentioned that each piece was unique or a one of a kind.
