We had fun with Dr. Seuss

This week we focused on the letter Z and did many Z activities.  It was also Dr. Seuss week.  We read several Dr. Seuss books and really had fun with “Put Me In The Zoo“.  We played a musical Zoo (chairs) game with the zoo animals everyone brought in.  We enjoyed “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” and we each made our own hot air

All About Dr. Seuss…

We had a great week in Young Learners celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday!  We read some of the Dr. Seuss books.  We had fun playing outside in the playground earlier in the week when it was nice out.  When the weather did not cooperate we enjoyed playing with our new sand and water tables and we also made our very own “socks” after reading “Fox

We made our own Lava Lamps in Science Enrichment!

We made Lava Lamps by doing a fun science experiment using vegetable oil, water, food coloring and Alka Seltzer tablets. When adding them we first see that the water and oil do not mix.  The food coloring is water soluble and mixes with the water.  We learned that the water molecules are polar which means they are attracted to other water molecules.  The Alka

Corn Dog Muffins and Caramel Apples! Delicious!

We had another delicious Kids Cooking Afternoon Enrichment Class.  Most of the chefs gave these two foods a thumbs up!  They gobbled up the Tiny Corn Dog Muffins and enjoyed the Caramel Apple slices. For the Corn Dog Muffins, we used hot dogs and Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix. We practiced cracking eggs, slicing and mixing.  We used an apple slicer to slice up the apples

We had a MAGNIFICENT week with Mr.M!

Vowels and Syllables…

In Reading Enrichment we read the book “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes and talked about how important it is to be kind to each other.  We also discussed how we each have our own names and how they are all special.  We practiced vowel sounds and did some vowel recognition activities, including recognizing the vowels in our own names.  We also talked about syllables and clapped

We worked together to make an amazing quilt in Art!

In art today, we looked at pictures of Maritza Soto quilts and discussed how quilts were made. We also talked about our work being a collaborative effort; we would all have a square for the quilt, decorate it, and then put all of the pieces in a design that we agreed upon. The final product is amazing!

We had fun with a Floating Ping Pong Ball Experiment.

Today in Science Enrichment we learned about Physics with a Floating Ping Pong Ball experiment.  The children each made a cone out of paper, placed a bendy straw in the hole of the cone and sealed the holes around the straw.  We placed ping pong balls and other types of balls such as styrofoam into the cone and we blew air through the straw

Mrs. Roth’s Class had fun celebrating Chinese New Year and meeting a robot…MC Blue!

This week the children celebrated the lunar new year by reading books and  exploring the symbolism and objects used during Chinese new year celebrations.  The Tuesday /Thursday children made lanterns. The Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday children made Chinese parade dragons. Zucchini Fritters and “Dirt” Pudding!

We made Zucchini Fritters and Chocolate Oreo “Dirt” Pudding.  Most of the chefs enjoyed both, especially when we added ketchup to the fritters.  They had fun grating, chopping, dicing and crushing the ingredients.  We also talked about fractions when adding the ingredients together (1/3 cup plus 2/3 cup).
